Leading the week
Senate Majority Leader John Thune hopes to bring the GOP’s $72 billion reconciliation package to the floor this week in an effort to get the legislation through ahead of a June 1 deadline set by President Donald Trump. That plan was dealt a blow on Thursday when Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that four elements of the immigration enforcement funding failed to comply with the Byrd Rule and will need to be redrafted. Expect more back and forth next week as Republicans look to get the bill over the line.
