Leading the Week
Amid intense pressure from President Donald Trump, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has announced that he plans to bring the SAVE America Act to a vote this week, though the controversial bill, which would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and for voters to present ID at the ballot box, is not expected to advance given Democratic opposition. While Thune has resisted calls from some in his party to scrap the 60-vote filibuster in order to pass the bill, the issue is likely to cast a shadow over Capitol Hill next week and potentially beyond.
